Alaska Information You Can't Live Without!

Hey there everyone! I thought that I would put up some information about Alaska that I found here in the office today!


First of all I wanted to share with you a TV show called Flying Wild Alaska. A lot of people dont know that Alaska is mostly made up of villages. When they think of Alaska they think of the Cities of Anchorage or Fairbanks and the cruises that happen here. They do not realize that most of it is made up of wild land and small villages. "Flying Wild Alaska features the Tweto family from Unalakleet, Alaska who run the Alaska airline Era Alaska. They operate the hub operations from Unalakleet. It also features other segments from their bases in Barrow, Deadhorse, and others." If you want to get a good view and idea of what Alaska is really like watch this show and see what the pilots and people who live in Alaska have to deal with on an everyday bases.

Also I found this in a paper that was in the office that I thought I would share with you.

Alaska's Biological Diversity.


"Diverse and abundant wildlife are central to Alaska's economy and people. Over 1,00 vertebrate species are found in the state, sometimes in huge numbers.


More that 900,000 caibou roam in 32 herds across vast tundra landscapes.


On the Copper River Delta alone, five to eight million shorebirds stop to forage and rest each spring on their way to artic breeding grounds.


Alaska has 32 species of carnivores, more than any other state.


Most of Alaska's fish and wildlife populations are considered healthy. In the rest of the nation, more that 400 species are listed as threatened or endangered. In Alaska, only 20 species are listed this way."

Week Two in Alaska!

The beauty of the Last Frontier!

Bethany all dressed up for church with the sweater and bonnet that was made for her! :-) This past sunday we tried out the Soldotna Bible Chapel and we really enjoyed it! We are hoping to try out College Heights church this next sunday

We are in week two of our Alaska adventure and sadly we have not gotten to do much exploring. Since thursday last week when I posted last week we have been graciously received in many homes for dinner and lunch. Jonathan has been kept very busy at the office and I have been going to things such as Tot-time and trying to help out at the office as well. To all of you who think that I could possibly be bored rest assured that I am not! I actually had to take tuesday and excuse myself to take a day to rest and relax with Bethany. Today I am taking the day to blog, e-mail, and write letters and other things. Also I will try to attempt to start our newsletter. We are really enjoying the people and the area is beautiful and it is a perfect place to raise a family!

Soldotna Alaska News!!

We all had great but long flights getting to our destination.

Well finally here is an update on some things that have been going on since our family has arrived in Alaska. We spent the first day which was Tuesday at the MARC building going through the day to day happenings and then having Jonathan get aquainted with the people and work area that he was going to be working with. I was around helping out the first day and Bethany did really well at the office all day. In the after noon we had our first evaluation which I did not feel prepared for at all and wish I had some better questions ready to ask them. That night we had the pleasure of eating at the directors house. The Bakers were awesome and we really enjoyed our time with them.

Bethany had her first ice cream!! :-) She wanted more but momma had to say no.


Wed I stayed home with Bethany and Jonathan went to the office. He said that he really enjoyed the people that he was working with and he was very happy with the work environment. I helped get Bethany a little bit more on schedule as she is cutting teeth and not feeling the best.


Today she has been doing much better and she slept through the night pretty well. This morning I met Megan Wohlers who is the daughter in law of the man we are staying with. She is involved with alot of things in the area such as MOPS, Tot Time, and play groups all of which I will be going with her to. I am anxious to see what God has for me to do in these ares in the future and cannot wait to serve Him through the children. Jonathan is having another good day and later tonight the Reeses are kind enough to have us over for dinner at their home. :-)




This is all very exciting as we are getting to know people and getting to know the area. We will try to keep you updated and I am sorry if this is more from my point of view rather then Jonathan's who is in closer contact with the organization. We are hoping to be able to take a trip out to some of the villages later if it can be organized. God bless and we send our love from Alaska!!
